CHI MODU and Pure Waste | Upgraded Textile Recycling

.

CHI MODU UNCATEGORIZED Collection Summer 2020

Good for the planet, good for the people

Excited to expand our multi year relationship with recycled textile producer Pure Waste. This collection is produced using 100% recycled fabric from Pure Waste, a company based in Finland. This sustainable fabric addresses the huge negative impact the apparel industry has on our environment. Each year, it takes 9 trillion liters of water, 1 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity and 24 million tons of cotton to manufacture the world’s clothing, only 15% of which is recycled. Pure Waste fabric is produced in a safe, fair, legal work environment in India using cutting waste left over from the textile manufacturing process as their raw material. Their process requires minimal water and never uses any dye chemicals. Since the CHI MODU brand is all about celebrating humanity, this sustainable collection represents yet another way to serve the people by serving the planet.

Textile Recycling Process

.

The manufacture of one cotton T-shirt consumes an average of 2,700 liters of clean water. By using recycled materials instead of virgin cotton, we have managed to save 2,689,878,600 liters of water (as of December 2019). We have recycled 381 214 kg of textile industry cutting waste and given it new life in the form of clothes.

Cotton is one of the most used fibers in the textile and garment industry. Even though it is a comfortable natural fiber, it exerts a heavy burden on the environment. Growing cotton requires a lot of clean water, and it is often farmed in areas with little rain and other problems with clean water availability.

We try to reduce the use of clean water by using recycled cotton in our manufacturing process. For our manufacturing process, no virgin or new cotton needs to be grown. That is our commitment to help reduce the waste.
